What is family therapy
Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves family members. This means that the therapist will be handling more than one client but clients who are family members.
This type of therapy is often in context of family dynamics. This means that this type of therapy looks at how family members influence one another and the state of the family homeostasis.
Benefits
With family therapy, the therapist can act as a mediator, a neutralizing factor to help family members express concerns that they previously repressed and kept to themselves.
With family therapy, a family can restore homeostasis or adjust the disrupted homeostasis; this means that the family can restore balance for the sake of functionality.
With family therapy, a family can adjust to major unavoidable changes or transitions within the family; having a new born child, having a new sibling, developmental stages (puberty).
